Firework Safety Tips

Celebrate safely — a few simple precautions keep everyone happy.

Do's
  • Read the instructions on each product before use.
  • Light fireworks in an open, outdoor space away from buildings.
  • Keep a bucket of water or sand and a first-aid kit nearby.
  • Light one firework at a time, at arm's length, and step back quickly.
  • Wear cotton clothes and keep footwear on.
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from heat and flame.
  • Soak used fireworks in water before disposal.
Don'ts
  • Don't let children handle fireworks unsupervised.
  • Don't relight a firework that failed to ignite — wait, then soak it in water.
  • Don't hold lit fireworks in your hand (except handheld sparklers).
  • Don't light fireworks indoors or near flammable material.
  • Don't wear loose or synthetic clothing while lighting.
  • Don't keep your face or body over a firework while lighting it.
  • Don't experiment by combining or modifying fireworks.
In Case of an Accident
  • For minor burns, hold the area under cool running water for at least 10 minutes.
  • Do not apply toothpaste, oil, or ice to a burn.
  • For eye injuries or serious burns, seek medical help immediately — do not rub the eye.
  • Keep emergency and local hospital numbers handy during celebrations.
